The National Council on Problem Gambling has appointed Charles H. Jeffers II as interim executive director with immediate responsibility for the organization's strategic operations. NCPG announced the appointment on October 26 as it prepares to search for a permanent leader.
Jeffers is the founder and principal consultant of The Jeffers Group, which works on interim executive leadership, governance, operations and organizational culture. NCPG Board President Derek Longmeier said Jeffers was selected for his experience with culture, operational demands and board governance during leadership transitions.
SBC Americas reports that the council plans to begin its permanent executive-director search in January 2027. Jeffers succeeds Heather Maurer on an interim basis after her September departure; NCPG has not publicly provided a reason for that personnel change.
The appointment gives the US nonprofit temporary executive leadership while it continues its work on gambling-harm prevention, education and support services. NCPG describes itself as neutral on legalized gambling, so the leadership change does not by itself signal a new legal position on betting or prediction-market products.
