Brazil's National Association of Games and Lotteries has congratulated President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva on his re-election and asked the government to reopen dialogue about the country's online betting ban. iGaming Business reports that ANJL wants to discuss restoration of the regulated market and measures against illegal operators.

Lula won the October 25 runoff with about 51.8% of the vote, according to The Washington Post. The election result keeps in office the administration that issued Provisional Measure 1,394 in September, ending fixed-odds betting operations after a regulated market had begun in 2025.

The prohibition was introduced as part of a broader response to household debt and gambling harm. Reuters reported at the time that the executive order halted online betting operations and required customers to be given a route to recover balances. Industry groups argue that removing licensed operators risks shifting demand toward unregulated sites.

ANJL's statement is an appeal for talks rather than a policy reversal. The ban remains in force unless it is changed through the political or judicial process, and Lula's re-election does not itself restore licences. The next material development will depend on government, congressional and court decisions rather than the association's request alone.
