Real Madrid is seeking contributions toward the European Super League's setup costs from Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool, Manchester City, Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur. The Spanish club confirmed the request to Reuters, arguing that the six remain liable for part of the project's initial expenses despite leaving shortly after its 2021 launch.

The amount has not been established publicly. Reporting cited by Reuters and Relevo says total setup costs could reach EUR80 million. Real Madrid says Juventus, Barcelona and Madrid covered those expenses, while the legal scope of the original shareholder agreement is not clear from the material made public.

The six English teams were among nine of the 12 founders that withdrew within three days amid widespread opposition. Juventus later left, and Barcelona formally withdrew in February 2026, leaving Real Madrid as the only founding club still associated with the project. Madrid did not immediately say whether it was making the same demand of Atletico Madrid, AC Milan or Inter Milan.

SBC Noticias reports that Madrid views the issue as a shared obligation of the founding clubs. Tottenham declined to comment to Reuters, and the other five Premier League clubs had not responded when its report was published. The payment request is therefore Madrid's position, not a publicly resolved contractual judgment.
