Culinary Union Local 226 says it will move ahead with efforts to organize workers at Red Rock Casino and other Station Casinos properties after the company failed to obtain an emergency stay from the US Supreme Court. Union leaders used an October 27 news conference in Las Vegas to call for contract negotiations.
A CDC Gaming report says Chief Justice John Roberts denied the stay request on September 4 without an explanation. The request concerned a federal appeals court decision requiring Red Rock to comply with a National Labor Relations Board order to recognize the union and bargain in good faith.
The union's October 27 statement describes the order as in effect and urges Station Casinos to begin negotiations. Secretary-treasurer Ted Pappageorge appeared with union president Diana Vallas and elected officials including Nevada representatives Dina Titus, Steven Horsford and Susie Lee.
Station Casinos has continued to dispute the labor board's reasoning. In a response quoted by CDC Gaming, a company spokesperson said the decision improperly nullified a 2019 secret-ballot result in which Red Rock employees rejected union representation. The federal order also requires notices at Red Rock, Boulder Station and Palace Station outlining employee rights and prohibited conduct.
