Chile's system for blocking unauthorised online betting sites is facing a growing set of legal and administrative challenges. Officials told the Chamber of Deputies' Economy Committee that 174 sites had been sent for blocking since August 19, according to G3 Newswire.
The process now faces three protection appeals, six administrative objections and one civil action seeking a declaration on regulatory authority. CoolBet, EpicBet and Latamwin brought the protection cases, while EstelarBet, Betano, Betsala and Jugabet submitted the administrative requests. Latamwin also asked a court to determine whether the telecoms subsecretariat and casino regulator can decide that an operator is acting unlawfully.
Subtel and the Superintendency of Gaming Casinos say they are implementing court orders rather than making independent legality decisions. The blocking instructions go to six large internet providers and use domain-name controls, but officials acknowledged that operators can migrate quickly to replacement addresses. SoloAzar reported matching totals from the committee session.
The dispute is unfolding while Chile's dedicated online-betting legislation remains unfinished. The Senate docket for bill 14838-03 records an active proposal to regulate online betting platforms. Until that framework is settled, enforcement continues through court-directed blocking and the operators' counterclaims.
