The legislature of Argentina's Buenos Aires province has approved rules limiting the use of phones, tablets and other digital devices during the school day in public and private primary and secondary schools. The measure extends restrictions that previously applied at primary level and modifies provincial Law 15.534.

Under the text reported by Infobae, non-use is the general rule throughout the school day. A teacher may explicitly authorize a device when its use supports a pedagogical activity. Education authorities will define practical procedures for breaks, exceptional circumstances and classroom organization.

Schools must also inform students aged six to 17 about the risks and effects of prolonged screen exposure, develop implementation protocols and review how the rules work over time. Provincial lawmaker Martín Rozas, who promoted the measure, said it was intended to preserve technology's educational value while protecting spaces for concentration and social interaction.

SBC Noticias reports that the policy rationale also cites problematic gaming and minors' access to illegal online betting. Argentina's official youth-safety guidance warns that unregulated betting sites can reach adolescents through digital channels. The new provincial measure regulates devices in schools; it is not a separate gambling prohibition.
