Nevada's 453 nonrestricted casinos reported about $1.2 billion in gaming win for September, a year-on-year decline of just 0.05%. The figures published from the state regulator's monthly report show that the Las Vegas Strip moved in the opposite direction, rising 0.82% to $693.4 million.
The nearly flat statewide result concealed sharper differences between markets. Clark County fell 0.95% to $1.08 billion, with downtown Las Vegas down 7.45% and Laughlin down 16.8%. North Las Vegas gained 9.18%, while the Boulder Strip was almost unchanged.
Northern Nevada also produced a mixed picture. Sparks rose 20.8% to $17.1 million, but Reno declined 3.5% to $72.9 million. Elko County advanced 11.6% to $35.2 million, including an 8.1% increase in Wendover, and the Carson Valley area gained 6.6% to $12.1 million.
The fiscal-year comparison remained positive despite September's slight statewide dip. Gaming win for the period beginning July 1 was 1.6% above the comparable prior-year period. Nevada collected $81.1 million in percentage fees during October based on September taxable revenue, 6.8% less than a year earlier. Gaming win measures the amount retained by licensed casinos after payouts, not total wagers placed by customers.
