Charles H. Jeffers II has taken temporary charge of the National Council on Problem Gambling while the organization prepares a permanent leadership search. His appointment became effective immediately, the council confirmed in an October 26 announcement.
The assignment brings in an executive whose consultancy specializes in helping institutions through periods of change. Jeffers founded The Jeffers Group after a career spanning nonprofit management, operations and governance, and the council credits him with more than three decades of leadership and advisory work.
Jeffers has previously stepped into an interim role at the American Occupational Therapy Association. He also led the Bermuda Tourism Authority and has worked in areas ranging from technology and membership services to destination promotion. CDC Gaming separately confirmed his move to the gambling-harm nonprofit.
The board expects the interim period to emphasize coherent operations, openness and organizational culture. Its recruitment of a long-term successor is due to start in January 2027, assisted by executive-search firm Vetted Solutions. Jeffers' mandate covers the transition rather than replacing that planned selection process.
