The NBA has created a formal framework for basketball prediction markets, naming Kalshi and Polymarket as preferred exchanges and signing a memorandum with the US Commodity Futures Trading Commission. The league's official announcement also expands its existing DraftKings relationship to include prediction products.

The commercial agreements give the preferred exchanges access to approved NBA intellectual property, marketing opportunities and official data. In return, the league retains control over which basketball markets may be listed and requires cooperation around suspicious trading and investigations.

Associated Press reports that NBA and team personnel are prohibited from trading on NBA events. Those safeguards mirror parts of the integrity structure already used with sportsbook partners while adapting it to exchange-traded event contracts.

The CFTC agreement focuses on information sharing and appropriate oversight, according to Reuters. It arrives while federal and state authorities continue to dispute whether sports prediction markets fall exclusively under commodities law or also within state gambling regimes.
