Italy's 2027 budget bill would increase levies on amusement-with-prize machines and video lottery terminals while extending existing land-based gambling concessions through the end of 2029. The package has been sent to parliament and remains subject to amendment.
According to iGaming Business, the bill also changes permitted stakes and prizes for gaming machines. Its technical estimates project roughly €952 million in gambling-related public revenue during 2027, combining the revised levies and concession measures.
The concession extension is intended as an interim arrangement while authorities continue work on a broader reorganisation of Italy's retail gambling network. It would keep current licences in place for three more years rather than immediately launching the long-delayed replacement framework.
The measures sit within a wider budget that also seeks larger contributions from banks and energy companies. Reuters reported that the cabinet's package targets additional revenue from the gambling sector, but the final rates, limits and receipts will depend on parliamentary approval and implementation.
