Gabon has formally launched the operations of La Gabonaise des Jeux and its online platform, gdjbet.com, as the state expands its role in organising and supervising the country's gambling market. The public operator began activity at a ceremony in Libreville on 22 October, according to the Ministry of the Interior.

The platform brings together sports betting, lotteries, virtual games, scratch cards, casino games and horse racing. GDJ director general Romeo Nguema presented the commercial portfolio during the launch and said the company would work within existing laws and the responsibilities of the relevant authorities.

The government has framed the project as a response to limited transparency and weak administrative control in the sector. Interior Minister Edgar Moukoumbi called for accountability, innovation and clear relationships with operators. That position was also reflected in SiGMA's coverage, which described GDJ as a state-owned company created to organise and control gambling activity.

GDJ was established in December 2025 and moved through its organisational phase during 2026. Its launch now adds a consumer-facing digital channel to the broader state-led structure. The available announcements do not provide revenue forecasts or market-share targets.

Focus Gaming News independently confirmed the platform's product range and the 22 October ceremony. The original iGaming Afrika report appeared on 29 October, exactly seven days after the event.
