Flutter Entertainment has begun a workforce consultation that could remove as many as 1,400 positions from its UK and Ireland business. The announced figure is a ceiling rather than a completed layoff count, and the final outcome remains subject to local consultation rules.
The company's SEC filing says notifications started on October 20. Employees in Leeds and Dublin are within scope, as are people assigned to the regional business from Flutter hubs in Porto and Cluj-Napoca.
Site-level reporting puts more than 450 Leeds roles and 240 Dublin positions at risk. The Dublin estimate comes from RTÉ, while iGaming Business reported the Leeds figure. Those numbers describe roles under review and should not be added to the company total as confirmed departures.
Flutter says the reorganisation is part of its response to higher British gaming taxes. Remote gaming duty rose from 21% to 40% in April, while the online general betting duty rate is due to rise from 15% to 25% in April 2027. The company argues that the changes require a lower fixed-cost base.
Reuters reported that the proposed reduction is about 16% of the division's roughly 9,000 employees. Flutter employs around 28,500 people worldwide.
The filing estimates pre-tax charges of $80 million to $90 million, mainly for severance, benefits and related costs. Flutter expects most of the programme to finish by year-end, although legal and consultation requirements could alter timing and scale.
