City Centro by Marriott Ponce Plaza & Casino has formally opened under the hospitality group's urban boutique flag in Puerto Rico. The launch brings the City Centro name to the island at an existing historic Ponce hotel and casino property.
The hotel occupies Casa Saurí, a building dating from 1882 in Ponce's historic centre. Its restoration preserves parts of the colonial architecture while adding contemporary accommodation and services.
Marriott's property page describes seven colonial-style suites in Casa Saurí and 62 modern rooms and suites, giving the hotel 69 keys in total.
The facilities include an outdoor pool, fitness centre, meeting space, food and drink venues, and an on-site casino. The location is within walking distance of central Ponce museums, galleries, restaurants and public squares.
The opening announcement positions the property as an expansion of Marriott's Caribbean and Latin American portfolio. The launch concerns the new brand affiliation and refreshed positioning of the long-established Ponce Plaza property rather than construction of an entirely new casino hotel.
