A federal judge has barred Kalshi from offering sports event contracts on the lands of California tribes pursuing a case under the Indian Gaming Regulatory Act. The preliminary injunction applies to Kalshi Inc. and KalshiEX within the plaintiff tribes' territories.
The November 4 order reported by AskSpinner requires the tribes to provide maps of their Indian lands by November 13. Kalshi must submit a status report within 21 days explaining the steps taken to comply.
The ruling follows a September decision from the Ninth Circuit. The appeals court found that the tribes were likely to show that sports contracts entered from tribal territory constitute class III gaming under IGRA and violate their approved gaming arrangements.
The district court had denied an injunction in 2025, but the appellate court reversed that part of the decision and returned the remaining factors for review. The new order is preliminary and does not resolve the full lawsuit.
