Arkansas Attorney General Tim Griffin filed separate civil lawsuits against prediction-market operator Kalshi and sweepstakes gaming company VGW, alleging that both businesses offered gambling in the state without complying with Arkansas licensing and consumer-protection rules.
The Kalshi complaint announced by the attorney general invokes the Arkansas Deceptive Trade Practices Act. The state is seeking restitution, civil penalties, taxes and an injunction. Griffin argues that Kalshi's event contracts amount to gambling despite the company's position that it runs a federally regulated derivatives market.
A separate lawsuit against VGW challenges the operator's dual-currency model. Arkansas alleges that customers purchase Gold Coins, receive Sweeps Coins as a bonus and can use the latter in casino-style games before redeeming winnings for cash.
SBC Americas reported that both filings were made on Wednesday. The allegations have not yet been adjudicated, and the official announcements do not include final court findings. FairDealer did not locate a response from either company in the reviewed materials.
