Michigan has added fixed-odds horse racing to the betting options available through its licensed online sportsbooks. The change took effect on October 30, 2026 and gives operators permission to offer race wagers with the payout price set when a customer places the bet.
The Michigan Gaming Control Board announcement distinguishes the format from traditional pari-mutuel betting. In a pari-mutuel pool, all wagers are combined and the final payout can move until betting closes; a fixed-odds customer keeps the quoted price.
The new wagers will run through online sports betting platforms already licensed in the state. Existing controls for regulated sports betting, including age and residency verification, licensing requirements and responsible gaming tools, will apply in the same way.
CDC Gaming reports that the board sees the addition as a response to demand for a more familiar sportsbook-style racing product. Pari-mutuel wagering remains available, so Michigan customers now have two different pricing structures for horse racing bets.
