Buenos Aires City’s gambling authority has begun using artificial intelligence to strengthen its response to illegal online betting. LOTBA president Jesús Mariano Acevedo said the work is intended to improve detection while helping investigators move beyond individual websites to the organizations operating behind them.
In an interview with SBC Noticias, Acevedo said LOTBA’s enforcement campaign had led to the closure of more than 1,100 illegal platforms and complaints against more than 110 influencers accused of promoting unauthorized gambling. The figures are the regulator’s own account of its activity and were not presented as an independently audited total.
Acevedo said the authority also wants Meta and Google to cooperate more closely in limiting advertising for illegal operators. LOTBA has discussed the British model with the UK regulator and plans further exchanges as it considers how technology companies could support enforcement. He argued that repeatedly blocking sites is insufficient when operators can quickly create replacements.
The enforcement push sits alongside a regulated local market. Buenos Aires publishes an official directory of authorized online gambling domains with the decisions supporting each authorization. Acevedo said the city currently has 11 licensed operators and called for advertising rules that constrain legal brands without steering players toward unregulated alternatives.
