Botswana's Gambling Authority has launched an education partnership with the South East Region of the Ministry of Child Welfare and Basic Education. The memorandum of understanding is designed to bring responsible-gambling awareness and underage-gambling prevention into schools across the region.
The regulator's launch announcement confirms the formal cooperation with regional education authorities. It places learner protection and safer school environments at the center of the agreement rather than extending gambling participation.
The programme will give the authority access to 77 schools for education involving students and teachers, according to current reporting on the agreement. Guidance and counselling teachers are expected to help recognize early signs that pupils may be involved in betting and direct concerns through existing school support channels.
The memorandum also provides two years of support for the South East Region's Staff Excellence Awards, which recognize educators' contributions to learner welfare and development. A separate account of the initiative notes that no financial value, detailed activity calendar or measurable targets were disclosed. The announced scope is the South East Region; the available sources do not establish a nationwide school rollout.
